Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg, born in Wiesbaden, Germany on July 27 1985 races for the Williams Formula One team under the German flag. He also competed for Finland earlier as he holds dual nationality of both countries.

Before Formula One

He began his career in 1996 in carting, being eleven years old at the time and in 2002, he moved to German Formula BMW, winning the title. It resulted in a move to his father’s team in Formula Three Euro Series, a series that combined several national Formula Three championships existing before its formation. He drove for his father’s team, doing quite well and so he stayed there till 2004.

2005

Imperial College, London offered him a seat for the aerodynamics course. He did not accept it and joining the ART Grand Prix team in 2005 for the newly created GP2 Series, winning the GP2 title, the first driver to do so.

Formula 1

He was confirmed officially for Williams as a driver in the 2006 season. He scored the highest in his team’s history when he took the Engineering Aptitude Test which was taken of all new Williams drivers. In Bahrain he was merely seven positions after teammate Mark Webber, recording the fastest lap and became the youngest driver doing so in F1 history. 2006 season after that did not go so well for him. He scored total four points but three less than Webber, his team mate over the season being quite disappointing both for himself and the Williams team.

2007 fared better with Rosberg finishing in the points a full seven times plus a career best of coming fourth at the Brazilian Grand Prix, which was ending the season.. Seven proved lucky as he again resumed the position in the Australian, Hungarian and Turkish Grand Prix. Canada’s grand prix saw him being qualified again seventh and moving up two places from the start.. He eventually quadrupled his 2006 points haul to 20 points. The first podium finish in his career was secured by Rosberg in 2008 by a strong drive to third place in the Australian Grand Prix. The season’s remainder was tougher when he was given a 10 place grid penalty in the French Grand Prix. The Singapore Grand Prix was monumental to his career as he finished second to Fernando Alonso after he led a Grand Prix for the first time despite a 10 second stop-go penalty. Nonetheless, he did not lose much time, rejoining fifth.

In 2008 his position was 13th with 17 points. He took part in the British Grand Prix of 2009 where Williams won 15.5 points. Nico Rosberg will be under contract to the Williams team till 2009 ending.
