The German motorcycle Grand Prix, first held in 1925, is since 1952 part of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing World Championship. Since 1998 it is held at the Sachsenring racing circuit. The track is located in Hohenstein-Ernstthal near Chemnitz in Saxony, Germany. Sachsenring is exactly 80 years old – but nevertheless still young. Its varied history makes the Sachsenring attractive, even after all those years.
The Free State of Saxony, ADAC and a special Sachsenring association invest huge amounts to keep the motor sport events and working conditions up to date. Many improvements have taken place since then, including a drastic layout enhancement in 2001. The track has been made faster and longer again, with the length now being 3670m. Numerous tight corners make it one of the slower tracks on the calendar but there is never any shortage of close racing action. Permanent pit garages were completed in time for the 2001 season.
The spectacular races of the MotoGP pilots at the demanding Grand Prix track and the immediate contact to all the action of the event are the magical attraction for everybody.
