United States MotoGP

The United States motorcycle Grand Prix is a motorcycling event that is part of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It is held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It is a paved road racing track used for both auto racing and motorcycle racing, originally constructed in 1957 near Monterey, California, USA.

The Californian track played host to Grand Prix events from 1988 to 1994 and returned in 2005. Advancements in MotoGP racing machines required the event to be moved elsewhere after 1994 while the track was modified and adapted to meet present day safety requirements. Since December 2004 the circuit has undergone major changes, primarily to increase track safety. The modernization includes an expanded exit lane, replacement of the kerbs and part of the main straight has also been widened. The circuits principal features, however, remain the same, with about 2.238 miles in length (3.602 kilometers), eleven turns, including the famous “Corkscrew” at Turns 8 and 8A, and a 300 foot (91m) elevation change. A variety of racing, exhibition and entertainment events are held at the raceway, ranging from superkarts to American Le Mans racing to music festivals.
