Dutch TT
The Dutch TT is a motorcycling event, traditionally held on the last Saturday of June at the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands, as part of the MotoGP World Championship. The circuit where the race is held is known as “The Cathedral” of motorcycling.
The circuit was purpose built for the Dutch TT in 1954, with previous events having been held on public roads. It is located in Assen, Netherlands. At over 6 km in length, the Circuit van Drenthe at Assen is the longest track on the MotoGP calendar and is the only venue to have held a round of the Motorcycle World Championship every year since its creation in 1949.
It has a capacity of 100,000 spectators, including 60,000 seats. The track is narrow, with rapid changes in direction, and is fully surrounded by grass banks.
A huge favourite with riders, Assen is well known for it’s festive and extravagant atmosphere. It has become a venue for concerts as heavy metal legends Iron Maiden announced that they would perform at the circuit making them the first band to hold a concert at the venue.
Modernisation work has recently been completed on the track itself as well as circuit entrance roads.
