Overview
The circuit at Laguna Seca has seen a number of modifications over the years including the creation of bigger run-off areas, an expanded exit lane and a widening of the main straight but the shape of this popular track has not be altered with the famous “Corkscrew” still in place. The circuit is 3.610 km in length and there are 11 corners to be tackled. The lap record is held by Casey Stoner with a time of 1:20:700, which he set in 2008.
History
The Laguna Seca circuit played host to Grand Prix events between 1988 and 1994 but the need for track modifications meant the event was suspended for 10 years until 2005. Following improvement to the safety features on the track the return race in 2005 was won by American Nicky Hayden and the event has proved to be very popular ever since.
